
Natun Sokal Report : Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) will hold its National Council on March 19.
BNP Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi announced this at a press conference held at its party headquarters at Nayapaltan in the capital on Friday. In his speech, Rizvi accused the police of torture and repression on his party men and common people.
“We have sought permission for three locations. We are considering the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) or the Engineers Institute as possible venues" he said.
BNP leaders Ruhul Quddus Talukdar Dulu, Habibur Rahman Habib and Masud Ahmed Talukdar were present, among others. The last council of BNP was held on December 8, 2009.
The party is supposed to organise a council every three years, but this time it is going to be held after seven years. In the last council, Khandker Delwar Hossain was made the Secretary General.
Mirza Fakhrul was made the acting secretary general after his death in 2011. Khaleda has been the chairperson since 1983.
She started her career in politics after the death of her husband late president Ziaur Rahman in 1981.
